Marienbad Film Festival
Since its foundation, Marienbad Film Festival has been closely connected to the city of Mariánské Lázně. It systematically enters the city’s public spaces and fosters an encounter of film with other types of art and expression of cultural and public life, connecting visitors from elsewhere with local film afficionados. In the past, it has also taken place in the space of the Casino Community Hall, the City Theater, Chopin House, on the colonnade or the City Museum and, most recently, in the Lesní Mlýn / Forest Mill. The festival is an homage to classical film and classical film technology. The history of experimental and indie film is presented at the Theatre Electrique and Cinema Excelsior sections, while classic Hollywood and European films of the 1950s and 60s are screened at the Gala section. Accompanying events also focus on initiating discussion about space, urbanism and the city’s history, for example by means of film and video art projections in the city streets, artistic symposia and guided city tours.
