AvantgArt Association

Zauhlovačka is a coal and water tower designed by architect Leopold Bauer in the early 20th century, and it has a long history as a precious cultural artifact. The tower dominates the landscape of Vratislavice nad Nisou but has long ceased to fulfill its original function connected with the operations of the nearby Bytex textile factory. But it remains just as beautiful today as it was then. The driver of Zauhlovačka is Jitka Jakubičková, who founded the AvantgArt association in 2015. Along with other members and many volunteers, they have been attempting to conserve the tower and transform it into a cultural center. The association rents the tower from a private owner, and the unique building is coming alive with regular events for both locals and visitors. Recently, the Dílna Zauhlovačky program has been organizing makers’ workshops and Zauhlovačka remains a space for people who want to take part in cultivating their surroundings.
