Tabook
Tereza Horváthová
Tabook is an international festival of book culture with a special focus on visual books and illustration. This annual meeting of small publishers takes place in the South Bohemian town of Tábor every autumn. It is considered one of the major conventions that brings people who are professionally involved in the publishing scene together with the reading public. The festival features readings, lectures, exhibitions by various illustrators, as well as expert seminars, concerts, theater performances, and a diverse program catering to elementary and middle school students. The festival also publishes a voluminous catalogue discussing the festival themes.
Tabook was founded by writer, editor and translator Tereza Horváthová along with illustrator and graphic designer Juraj Horváth, who both work at the Baobab publishing house. Other key collaborators include graduates of the Studio of Illustration and Graphic Art from the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague, also largely led by Juraj Horváth. The festival’s tenth iteration took place as Tabook 2021, which Horváthová publicly announced would be the last – at least for a while. Tabook may resume in the future, but before that, the production team is overdue for a long break and consolidating process.
