Jihlava
Tereza Říčanová is an illustrator, painter, cow milker and cheesemaker, as well as a graphic designer. She also produces theater performances for children, leads numerous workshops, teaches at the Jihlava-Helenín art school, and dances as part of the Kozí Kraviny performance (staged under the auspices of the Ponec theater and the Tanec Praha festival). More than twenty years ago, she moved with her husband Pavel from Prague to Mezná u Pelhřimova, where they have been raising five children and taking care of a farm, which includes a small forest. Říčanová’s books have been published by the Baobab publishing house, and have received numerous awards, such as The Golden Ribbon Award for Most Beautiful Book, or the Magnesia Litera. To name just a few: Kráva / Cow (2021), To je Istanbul / This is Istanbul (2018), Obrazy světa / Pictures of the World (2016), Noemova Archa / Noah’s Ark (2010), Kozí Knížka / Little Book of Goats (2005). She graduated from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, having studied with Professor Šalamoun, and she also received a PhD from the same school’s Illustration and Design studio. Each year, on March 10, she carries a Tibetan flag, together with local people, on a journey through the neighboring townships, and also organizes the week-long art camp LinoLágro on her farm in Mezné, which culminates with a shared public opening on the town square. Říčanová’s exuberant energy is absolutely contagious, and few manage to keep up with her.
