Ústí nad Labem

The Veřejný sál Hraničář is an association which has been operating the space of the same name since 2014 in the former cinema of Ústí nad Labem. The building was reopened thanks to the interest of a group of young students from the university of J. E. Purkyně and the group of the Činoherní Studio. It is an open platform and a multifunctional space which connects visual art, film, theater, music, lectures, workshops and other cultural activities with everyday life and the happenings of the city and its surroundings. Hraničář attempts to reflect social changes by artistic means and to enrich the public space of the city and its surroundings. It addresses current social and ecological interests, offering cultural and variously themed programs for both the professional and lay audiences – thematic exhibitions, film screenings, programs for schools and so on. They actively collaborate with the city and the university, striving to connect them through the sphere of culture. The objective is to draw the attention of people also from outside of the region.
